I love seeing bird species for the first time. Sunday I saw a bird at our pond that I've narrowed down to either a Bufflehead (to the left) or a Goldeneye (to the right). Of course I didn't have my camera or my binoculars so I didn't get a good view. Here are pictures of a Bufflehead and a Goldeneye. Both birds dive (do all ducks dive?), one is medium and the other is small. The birds appeared on smaller so I'm leaning toward them being the Bufflehead. It was fun to watch them dive and then pop up somewhere else in the pond. They're quite quick under water. Has anyone else seen either of these birds? Now that I look at these photos next to each other I'd say it was the Bufflehead because it seems like the head was white.
Not much else going on. This is my off day for the week (4 day work weeks, 10 hours/day). I'll usually have Mondays. I will see if I can get Buster's hair cut today but I doubt I'll be able to find anyone to do it on short notice.
Well, I'm off to drink more coffee and slowly adjust to the day!

Not all ducks dive - mallards are dabblers. The divers are hard to get pictures of because of what you said...they pop up in a completely different place!
Try this:
Goldeneye
OK. Based on the photo you took, I'd say I saw a Bufflehead. I could be wrong but I'm 75% sure it was a Bufflehead.
